Steamers, Amigos Win. Both Series stand at 2-1

The Cleveland Steamers won their first game of the playoffs with a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the Seattle Monarchs.  The Monarchs had a 3-1 lead going into the top of the 8th when facing Joseph Malcuso, they scored three runs on a homer by Tyler Thomas.  Seattle tied it up in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Steven Jackson.  Cleveland, however pushed across two more runs on a single by John Grondin.  Junior Cuomo then came in to shut the Monarchs down in the ninth.  Tyler Thomas was the hitting star of the game, going 3-5 with the home run (however, he also left 5 runners on base).

The Saskatoon Amigos took a 2-1 lead in their series against the Maui Mashers with an 8-6 victory.  Things got off to a bad start for Maui when starter Jesus Morales had to leave the game in the first inning with an injury that will likely sideline him for the remainder of the playoffs.  Anibal Ottman came in to pitch the next three plus innings and gave up six hits and four runs to take the loss.  Gabriel Sequiros was the hitting star of the game for Maui, going 3-5 with 3 RBI.  Bill Frison went 3-5 for Saskatoon, including hitting his second triple of the series.

  1. I won the first of four must wins in this series. Zev, what you failed to mention that before my 5 run outburst in the 8th and 9th innings, my only run was off a HR by my pitcher. Good times.

On another note, Goss got his first hit of the series, he is now 1-11. The last 2 years in the playoffs he has batted .431 and .389 respectively. He will have to heat up if I want any chance in winning this series as Grondin (who already has 5 hits in the series) needs someone on base to drive in.

So, now that Gerth is healthy again do I have him pitch game 4 (as my original plan) or do I go back to Turner on short rest? I guess we will all find out tonight.

  2. Tough break for Matt with Morales's injury. That sucks.

As for the Monarchs-Steamers' tilt, the Monarchs' pitching was stupendous for the first 25 innings. I guess I can't blame them too much for two bad innings at the end, even if those innings cost us the game.

I'd love to get a home win with Jaime Cruz on the mound for Game Four. He was outstanding in September and hopefully he can stay on a roll for one or two more starts.
