In the Battle of the Pitching Titans (as Mack previewed for us last time) and both sides did not disappoint.
Demarcus Ramirez pitched eight innings of four-hit, one-run ball, with the only run scored against him coming in the third inning, when a triple and an errant pickoff throw* brought home the first (and only) run for Seattle.
Christopher Hester, meanwhile, was just as brilliant for the Amigos, pitching seven innings of four-hit shutout ball, during which only two runners made it to second base.
The Amigos finally pushed a run across in the eighth with three singles and scored the winning run on a walk-off single by Dan Burdine.
Game 4: Thursday night
* Oddly enough, the game charged this to Ramirez as an earned run...
Wow. Another one run game going down to the wire. 113 and 112 wins for these teams and a 7-6 head-to-head regular season record (with Seattle taking the series in game 163). It'd be fitting if the Cecil Cup goes all 7 games and ends in another Ramirez-Hester classic.
ReplyDeleteCheck that--113 and 111 wins, respectively.
ReplyDeleteThat's seven one-run games in a row for the Monarchs. I think I'm glad I'm not watching these games live. Likely would be bad for my health.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would like it if my manager kept my good relievers in for more than a batter or two, as opposed to burning through most of them and then turning the game over to a rookie. Just a thought. (Apparently, a "slow" setting for how fast to take out relievers isn't sufficient. Sigh.)
