  1. Well I think everyone now can stop complaining about injuries because one of my top pitching prospects Oscar "The Icebox" Villalpando tore his Labrum in a game in this last sim and has RETIRED FROM BASEBALL. He was 19!!!!!! This season in AAA he was 13-2 with a 1.60 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. I was planning on bringing him up soon and keeping him there forever. Well, I hope I can recover from all of this and still make a meaningful run to the Zotti League title next season like I planned. I do have to say this sucks, but is part of the game, and I will keep fighting on.

  2. Hey, I uploaded too! Vile slander and calumny and libel and lots of other bad sounding things!

And, I guess it's nice to see Lutz making a run at the Adams triple crown in his walk year. Should make for a very interesting bidding war this offseason.

  3. Wow, Jeremy, that really sucks.

But, hey, cool, the Scorps are in a nine-game losing streak, and somehow, I'm still within striking distance of the wild card spot.

    Strange game, this one.

  4. Ouch. I just lost 3/5 of my starting rotation during this sim, including my ace, Frank Thomas. Hmmm, I've got McGreevy in the bullpen who can start, and at AAA just a couple of guys who the minor league scouting report says are possibly overmatched at AAA.
Hey, Junior Cuomo's got starting experience!

  5. This is as good a space as any to apologize to everyone inconvenienced by my vanishing act yesterday. Far too many dollars later, my car is fine, and Paul Shunk is still a Husker.

Other than Alva Mendonca, who recently-discovered court papers reveal is actually named "Carl Pavano," Hickory has avoided the injury bug so far (knock-knock). I'm hoping for a late season surge for the wild-card, but who knows with this team?

  6. Re: Seattle uploading -- corrected.

I actually lost two pitchers *in the same game!*. Both Sabas Delvalle and Xavier Portillo went down in the Aug 4 game. Delvalle's done for the year, making this the first year in his career that he will not reach 10 wins and the first year he does not strike out 200 batters.

  7. Is this the right time for me to trot out my standard line about how much injuries suck and how, even though they may be realistic, they're just no damn fun?

Yes, yes, I think it is that time.

  8. Yeah, Mack, it's the right time. It didn't happen this sim, but recently a pitching prospect of mine (TANSTAAPP!) got hurt again, after recovering from a season-long injury. Now I'm lucky if he'll even make the majors.

  9. It's nice to see that my attempt to improve my team was such a huge success.

    Bad, bad sim.

  10. Well, *I* was happy with it.

    So that something, anyway.

  11. Huh? Did anyone hear that? I thought I heard something.

  12. I actually gained 3 games in the wild card standings this sim, despite losing the three starting pitchers. And Marzano hit as well or better than I expected.

  13. I am actually still for the current level of injuries. Not going to argue about the suckiness of the injury, but I still claim that it sucks less when there is more of a chance that other teams are going through it too. In the other league that many of us are in, I lost my #1 pitching prospect to a career ending injury this season as well. While he was not even close to the level of "The Icebox" it still sucked a good deal. In that league, with fewer injuries, I am stuck getting screwed by a chance event, that most other people are not going to have to go through because it does not happen as often. To me that sucks more than this situation. Just my 2 cents, I am sure that others are going to be swayed the other way, but I am going to stand firm on this one.

  14. For what it's worth, I agree with Jeremy on all counts. The frequency of injuries means that any one injury is less likely to completely torpedo someone at random.

  15. I'm not trying to restart the same argument about what the injury frequency should be, nor was I with my earlier comment. I feel compelled, however, to note that I vehemently disagree with the idea that if something sucks, we should make it happen more often to increase the odds that everyone gets to experience the suckiness equally.

Or, to put it another way, I don't feel any happier about the injuries my team suffers just because I see someone else have players get hurt too. In fact, pretty much all injuries (especially career- or season-ending ones), leave me feeling sad that it happened and wishing I could have seen how that player's season or career would have played out.

And that's true even when it happens to Nate's players. :)

  16. I agree with you that injuries suck. But if you ask me the argument you are making is for no injuries at all, which I would be for more than reduced injuries, but not really for overall. I am just saying it evens the playing field rather than making it an extreme disadvantage for just one or two teams.
