Injured Hukill, Supersonic Villatoro. All is normal is River Cities.
Though, whoa nelly! Those wildcare races are fierce! Only one team in my league is truly eliminated...the rest all have some justification for thinking they can pull it out!
I have a 6-9 sim, and I go from one game down in the wild card to one game up. The best thing I can say about my team is that I only have one game at River Cities' home park remaining where I have gone, 5-18. Yeah, it does not look good if I actually make the playoffs, but I will worry about that when I get there. If they were not in my schedule, I would be way up on the Wild Card, but we have to play the games as they are scheduled. At least, I only had 2 season ending injuries this season and one career ending injury to my #1 pitching prospect :)
Well, no major injuries, other than to my top replacement infielder, so that's good.
Also, free-agent-to-be Lutz is still on pace for a Triple Crown and has a shot at breaking Casarez's record of 54 home runs in a season. I'm sure Scott Boras is smiling somewhere. Go Dong!
As commissioner, I'm invoking my rights to make a Ford Frick ruling regarding Dong Lutz's attempt to break the home run record.
First of all, he has to do it in 597 at bats (the same number of AB that Casarez had to do it in), he has to do it blindfolded and batting facing the backstop. If he gets more than 54 home runs despite that, it shall go down in the record books with an asterik.
I can't believe I'm 5 out of the Wild Card, thanks to a 10-5 sim. What will be amazing is if one, or both, Wild Card winners are below .500, and manages to upset River Cities or Seattle. Wow, can you imagine a .500 team playing for the Cecil Cup?
(Upon reflection, if I somehow managed to steal my 5th Cup that way, I wouldn't feel any shame at all. It would serve the rest of the league right for dissing the 2005 Stockholm team, aka, the Greatest Team Ever.)
Zev, if it makes you happier, Lutz has little chance at beating the unbelievable 1.161 OPS Casarez put up that year. I mean, the guy even had 11 triples! That's a year that may stand for a long, long time in the recordbooks.
I think you mean September I, not August II. I took care of that one for you last week, Zev. :)

Gerhardt's still got a shot at 100 steals too.
Michael,
ReplyDeleteYep, my goof.
