Financial Help?????

So it was decided that there would be change to the Media contracts 2-3 sims ago (over a month of game time) and we have yet to see that money. I know that a number of us had changed our off season strategy because of this information (if we thought it was a good idea or not), and I know that some of us were planning on using that money to go after some high priced FAs in the market (some of which have started to sign - i.e. Lutz). Personally, I think this delay on the extra money has made the situation go from bad to worse, promising 'help' (and I use that phrase loosely), and then not coming through with that 'help', is not a good way to move forward in this league. I am wondering if there is a plan for when the media contracts are going to change, and if we possibly could HALT all sims until this is done. If we say we are going to do something let's do it so that we are all on the same level playing field and have our strategies aligned with reality. Sorry to be so blunt, but this needs to be taken care of ASAP if we want to have the illusion of parody in this league.

  1. There most definitely is the allusion of parody in this league. Whether there's an illusion of parity, well, that remains to be seen.

    What's up, Zev?

  3. I personally loved the typo. Cracked me up.

Even though there's absolutely no change to my team's finances coming, I agree 100% with Jeremy's post. You just can't announce that changes will be made, as was done in this post and then not implement the changes. It's not fair to the owners. And, the lack of communication aggravates the situation.

  4. It's weird, because I *did* make the changes in the media contracts as we discussed.

Furthermore, I tested this out in a test league that I have by giving one team a one billion dollar media contract (so that I could easily see the effects) and it took effect right away. I thought the same would happen here and, for some unknown reason, it has not.

It is within my power to change the cash that any particular team has. I think that this will have to be the approach to take for now.

Unless anyone has any objections, here will be the course of action for tonight's sim --

    1. I will increase the actual cash on hand for each team for the same amount that the media contract was increased.

    2. I will NOT run a sim, but merely upload the changes.

This should allow everyone to place bids with the larger cash amounts.

My apologies for the confusion on this issue.

  5. Here is the problem that I have with that, and I brought up this point before. The issue that I have is not with cash on hand for this season (even though I can always use more), but next season. If you just dump cash in out accounts, that will help me out for this season, but unless the media contract is updated, it will not help my budget for next season and leave me personally and I am assuming other owners in similar situations, but I could be wrong. What can I do?

  6. I agree with Jeremy that Zev's suggested solution doesn't help people like me who want to offer multiyear contracts. The game simply will not allow owners to make substantial multiyear offers because it assumes budgets in future years will be similar to the current year's budget. The only reason I was able to make a huge multiyear contract to Lutz is because Zev entered it for me manually. Now, unless the changes are made, the game won't let me do anything, whether it is a contract extension offer or a $300,000 offer.

  8. Wait a second. I have not been offering contracts to the big ticket FA because I did not think I had the funds to do so. Now I find out we can just e-mail Zev and get a contract offered above our budgets????

  9. I'm calling BS on this. I had the highest offer to Lutz for weeks, then Matt gets the rules changed, and then financial changes input for him only so he can bid on Lutz and get him? Garbage. Not fair, etc.

  10. Something smells rotten to me, too. (Although I wasn't seriously in the Lutz sweepstakes.) I also didn't get a bid e-mail from Matt, as I should have in case Zev had me do the sim.

  11. That wasn't my intention, but it seems to be what happened. I asked him to enter my offer manually because the financial changes had not been made in the prior sim as planned, and because I was worried that Lutz would accept another offer if another 2 weeks passed without a competing offer. The plan was for Zev to make the financial changes in the next sim, then input my offer. It sounds like he did that, but the changes didn't take. So now I am completely out of money, both for this year and future years, and cannot do anything unless the problem is fixed.

  12. Hold on... hold on!

Nothing improper happened... or at least not that I'm aware of.

Matt asked me to input an offer for him because he was afraid to wait a sim for the financials to change lest he miss making an offer to Lutz.

As I said earlier, I thought the financials were changing as of right then, so I didn't think anything amiss when the offer for Lutz went through. I did not realize that I had "circumvented" the budgeting for his team.

As I said earlier, I'm going to look at the finanicals and see what's going on. Mack sent me an email with some helpful info and I'll do some more testing before we proceed any further.

In addition, as I mentioned earlier, once everything is done, I will update the league file without running a sim so that everyone has a chance to make offers as necessary.

  13. Frankly, some of the comments in this thread are pissing me off. I'll post my email exchange with Zev if it would make people feel better.

Also, if there is another team besides Saskatoon that had plans to make a competitive offer to Lutz after the financial changes were implemented, let me know and I will ask Zev to put him back in the free agent pool.

  14. Time out, people.

It's clear to me that somethings going wonky here. I won't state an opinion on the appropriateness of what went down. But I do think a solution of some sort is called for that makes all happy.

What that solution is I don't know. Is it a rollback through the offseason? Some form of compensation? Move on and tough luck? I don't know. But we should definitely be discussing that straight away.
