I'm sorry, but I didn't get a chance to run the sim last night as I intended to. We'll pick it up on Saturday night.
I also want to apologize for the way things went in the last post. I appreciate the fact that people responded both publicly and privately.
Barring any objections, I think we can proceed from here. I will add cash to each owner's balance corresponding to the increase in the media contract. I'm also inclined to let the Lutz signing stand -- other owners in the past have been the beneficiaries of game quirks/errors -- but if there are objections, I'm willing to listen to remedies (short of actually rolling back the date).
Zev
All good to me.
ReplyDeleteMy only suggestion is that if problems continue the league should be blown up and started over. The games chance to collapse under its data seems to increase greatly after the 10th season in this version of the game. The older version did not seem to have this problem. The robust minor and sub leagues may be part of the problem. The game also collects much more data now. Going 10 – 15 or 15 – 20 seasons and then rebooting the leagues with new players may be the thing to do. You can then also even out “financials” at the time of the reboot.
In the future we also may want to think about having a computer controlled team in each league to introduce a variable to the “financials”. At times, I think there is a need that crazy owner they will overpay to make it a harder call to see if you will get that last piece for a pennant push.
Will: For fun, after we converted to OOTP 9, I went ahead and simmed about 70 seasons of this league. While there were some interesting results (spoiler, from what I remember: every team won at least one championship in the next 70 seasons, so take heart Cubs fans), I didn't encounter any problems like the league breaking.
ReplyDeleteZev: I think we're all good. Tempers did flare (and I apologize for my part in that), and as long as the league moves forward and communication is open, everyone will be fine. I think the Lutz signing should stand, as well as the two MR signings by Walla Walla's computer owner that Nate is all up in arms about. They weren't wholly unreasonable contracts, after all.
I think we should wait until David is online and ready before we move forward. Really, give the guy a chance.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nate that we should give David a reasonable amount of time to get on board before simming forward. (My understanding is that the next sim is only going to make the financial changes and that we aren't actually simming days, but I could be wrong.) I see that Zev sent David a blog invite a day or two ago, so hopefully we'll hear from David soon.
ReplyDeleteWhile I think Zev's suggestion to increase cash to match media contract increases is a good start, I don't think it resolves the multiyear contract problem. In other words, even if $15 million in cash is added to my team, the most that will allow me to do is offer a one-year contract to a free agent. I would still be prevented from offering contract extensions. It sounds like Jeremy is experiencing the same problem.
It is my understanding that Mack has emailed Zev step-by-step instructions on how he has been able to adjust the media contracts in the current year in the other OEL league. I would encourage Zev to try that process one more time to see if it works here. This would obviously be the best solution if Zev can make it work. I'm having a hard time figuring out why it would work in one OOTP 9 league and not another, but there must be some reason. If it doesn't work here, then I agree that the cash adjustment is probably the best alternative and I would support it even though it would not help me (and possibly other teams) address contact needs beyond this year.
I am giving David a tutorial on Monday with his laptop after he downloads and sets up the game. So after that would be good.
ReplyDeleteNot that Zev is going to see this tonight. Oy.
