The second game of the Cecil Cup was a lot closer than the first game. Seattle, having dominated visiting Brooklyn in the opener, sent ace Enrico Hernandez to the mound to face William Lawrence.
Seattle opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot by Jonathan Anderson. Two innings later, Anderson hit his second home run in as many at bats to extend the lead to 3-0. Brooklyn scored twice in the top of the 4th, making it a 3-2 game, but Seattle plated a run in the 5th.
It was 4-2 as the sixth inning began. Brooklyn batted around, scoring 4 runs on three hits (and two errors by the sloppy Monarchs), taking a 6-4 lead.
The Wolves held onto that lead through the middle of the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th, John Hukill hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 6-5, but, even though the Monarchs got runners on the corners with just one out in the bottom of the ninth, closer Pino Pontoni got consecutive strike outs to end the game.
The series is tied at 1 as the series, and home field advantage, travels cross country to Brooklyn. Game three will be on Monday night.
So, despite having my rosters set and (this time) using the seven-day line-up feature, the computer used starting pitcher Bruno Talamantez as my starting second baseman yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI expect all of the other teams to be tired of the Monarchs' success. I'm a little surprised though that it's reached the program itself.
