  1. Wow, the injuries are really piling up. Is it me, or do there seem to be a lot of them in v9?

This sim I lost Aguinaldo (for 2-3 months), a pitching prospect for a full year, and Shuttleworth got a two week injury, too.

That doesn't count Cohen (three more weeks on the DL), Grimes (one week), and Santoyo (4 days), from the last sim.

All in all, my team has been playing rather well, except my bullpen sucks and I can't beat NY. And, despite finishing both of the last sims 7-3, I've lost yet another game behind NY/RC, leaving me 15 back.

  2. Again with the tied thing? You could stop, Paul.

Wooster continues to be the man, now at 13-2 he's my top starter and it was wholly unexpected.

More than half of my games next sim are against New York. Hell, I'm 10-4 vs New York so far but he's feasting on the also rans. I figure we'll meet in the wild card round one way or the other.

  3. Oh, and it's nice to know that the top five batters in the ZL All Star team are Sternwheelers. Comforting to me.

  4. Yeah, I commented on the frequency of injuries earlier. Definitely seem to be more in the new version. I would support changing the settings to reduce the injury frequency next season.

Nice to see that pitiful Maui sent three players to the All-Star Game.

  5. I think the injuries are more representative of real life baseball. Sometimes they really affect a team (i.e. Braves SP from last season, Indians last season with Hafner etc. and Cardinals overcoming their whole team being hurt last season). I think that it can suck, but I am for keeping the injuries where they are.

As for the All-Star game, the mighty Steamers are only sending one player to the game, LF Franklin Jackson who is having a fine season, but I thought I would have at least 2 there, but I really don't deserve anymore. In good news, I am back to leading the race for the #1 draft pick.

  6. I'm mixed on the injuries issue - I agree with Jeremy that it's more realistic, but it does suck when you lose one of your stars.

Well I got Gossard to resign for 4 years, so that's good. Really was tired of having to worry about Catcher.
Of course that uses up pretty much all my budget for extensions...

  7. Yeah, Mack and I did some testing of the injury frequency using a career of rookies and the 1985 rookie class of the real life majors and it was within about 10% of realistic in terms of how many players over their careers had significantly debilitating injuries. So I don't think it's more frequent...it just may be more noticable.

  8. I definitely think that injuries are more frequent than in version 6.5 and more true to life.

I also firmly believe that injury rate, while realistic, is not fun and, after all, we are playing a game here. And, in all fairness, my beloved Monarchs haven't had nearly the injury problems some other teams have.

I would support lowering the injury frequency not because the version 9 rate isn't realistic, but because it just isn't fun.

  9. On the sim itself, I'm not thrilled to see the Monarchs swept in a three-game series by Saskatoon, but 10-5 is certainly a good enough record and it looks like Seattle can cruise to a playoff berth.

I was disappointed to see Cedeno's average dip below .400 though. It would be awesome if he could have an insanely great career year and pull that off.

  10. I agree, injuries can take some of the 'fun' away from the game, but they can add to the 'fun' by thinking of creative ways to work around the injuries. One season you will be hit hard and the next you might not. Of course this is from someone who has not had any serious injuries in this league (or the other one I am in)...knock on cubicle wood.

  11. Well, I'm a guy who always turns the injury sliders up a bit in any sim sports situation, just because I find creatively managing injuries to be part of the fun of the game. So I have no objection to the frequency of injuries as it currently stands.

On another note, Hickory is teetering on the brink of deciding whether to sell or to stand pat this 2013 season. I am fielding offers for most players, notably Dong Lutz, Robert Fout, and my two All-Star pitchers: Alan Reuter and Bill Dewall. Need a power-hitting third baseman? A solid middle-of-the-rotation starter? An upgrade at first? A closer? Hickory has what you need. Give us a call, or an e-mail.

Bonus points if anyone wants to trade for Tony Demiras, who is an incredible whiner and needs to be banished.
